Teams: India : Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah.

Bangladesh: Nazmul Hossain, Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman/Abu Hider Rony.

For all the (controversial) luxury of avoiding travelling hassles and playing in Dubai throughout, India may not be heading into the Super Fours in the most ideal fashion after all. Hardik Pandya’s Asia Cup-ending injury has left the team management on the brink of breaking away from their most trusted team composition of two fast bowlers, two spinners alongside Pandya – a fast-bowling all-rounder.

Deepak Chahar, Pandya’s replacement, is a fine bowler and fits the combination, but it is the lack of equitable batting acumen that sticks out as a sore spot. The question, though is, do they need someone who can bat too? If the answer to that is no, then any of Chahar, Siddarth Kaul or Khaleel Ahmed could fit in.

This game, in fact, could be another opportunity for Khaleel, after putting on an impressive show against Hong Kong, but making way for Jasprit Bumrah against Pakistan. But if the team management is not in favour of trimming down their batting options and trusting Kedar Jadhav as the lone finisher, then all roads lead to just one solution – Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja last played an ODI in June 2017, but brings the sort of accuracy with the ball that teams crave in conditions in Dubai.

Bangladesh too have had to deal with injuries, the latest one taking Tamim Iqbal away from the event. Tamim heroically batted with a broken wrist at No. 11 in the tournament opener, but has now returned home and risks missing the Zimbabwe series. Tamim’s replacement though is the exciting young Nazmul Hossain Shanto, the 20-year-old who has two Under-19 World Cup appearances and a Test debut to his name already.
